road to Keno
Keno City lies nestled in the mountains at the end of the Silver Trail. Its beautiful surroundings and "off the beaten track" setting have inspired several artists to settle here, boosting the population to 20. Take a walking tour through Keno City and you are taking a "stroll through history". Experience northern friendliness and hospitality in a truly unique frontier town. And while in town, be sure to visit the Keno City Mining Museum, one of the finest museums in the territory. Next to the Museum is the new Alpine Interpretive Center with plenty of information about our region. There are self-contained guest cabins (B&B) in town, a historic hotel (now closed), a campground, Snack Bar, and two art studios.  A drive up Keno Hill to the famous signpost is not to be missed. The road winds its way to an elevation of 6000 feet, and the view from the top is well worth the trip. Keno City offers the outdoor enthusiast unspoiled nature and quiet solitude year-round. A network of trails criss-crosses the landscape through historic mine sites, offering some of the most spectacular mountain vistas in the North. You can hike or bike in the summer; cross-country ski or snowmobile in the winter. There are trails for every level of ability. The many lakes and rivers nearby provide great fishing and canoeing. Wildlife viewing is plentiful here. Our sunsets are breathtaking all year round. And the northern lights, which show themselves from the end of August through April, are awesome! The well maintained gravel road to Keno City is open year-round.
(Please note that you should stock up with groceries and gas if you want to stay a few days, there are no stores in Keno City. The nearest are in Mayo)
